Acupuncture for Osteoarthritis
Joint pain doesn't have to mean accepting less movement ā we treat the pain and support the joint's long-term function.
Osteoarthritis is the gradual breakdown of cartilage within a joint, leading to pain, stiffness, and sometimes swelling that's often worse first thing in the morning or after periods of rest, and eases somewhat with movement. It most commonly affects the knees, hips, hands, and spine, though it can develop in any joint.
Why It Happens
Cartilage naturally wears down with age, repetitive loading, prior injury, or joint misalignment, and once it thins, the joint loses some of its natural cushioning. The body responds with inflammation and, over time, changes to the surrounding bone and soft tissue ā part of why osteoarthritis pain can flare independent of activity level.
How We Treat It
We use acupuncture and dry needling around the affected joint and surrounding musculature to reduce pain and inflammation. Then we treat the full kinetic chain ā the joints and fascial planes above and below the affected area ā to offload the joint and improve the muscular support around it.
Building strength and stability around an arthritic joint is one of the most effective ways to manage symptoms long-term, and we work that into your plan alongside in-office treatment.
What to Expect
Many patients notice reduced pain and improved mobility within 6ā8 visits. Because osteoarthritis is a degenerative condition rather than an acute injury, ongoing maintenance care ā typically every 4ā8 weeks ā helps sustain those gains over time.
